Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 - Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a small neighborhood situated on the West Island, which is part of Montreal's island. The people who aren't familiar with this term often think that there is a separate island west of Montreal However, in reality the West Island is home to all things from Lachine west to the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island, although this is not true. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. Her initial ambition was to be an actor, but after a sudden increase in size, her friends were no longer able to dance along with her. In an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. When I reached the height of the size of my male friends and stopped dancing, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting, and in the case of Brugel, it was a nudge from the drama instructor at her high school who led her in the right direction. One of her teachers suggested she take part in an audition for the annual school production. She tried out and was eventually cast as the leading role of Anne of Green Gables. It led to a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years, the roles played by Brugel on television and the big screen have been varied. Her role as Rita in the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most memorable. Brugel was the only Canadian part of the cast for the season 1 of the show and was only appeared on occasion.
